The diving grades offered by BSAC Branches range from Ocean Diver, through Sports Diver, to Advanced Diver, whilst First Class Diver is a Nationally awarded qualification. In addition there are Instructor grades.

The BSAC Sports Diver qualification can be equated to your ' driving licence' required to drive a car without supervision, since it allows the Sports Diver to use equipment and arrange for diving activities with other BSAC registered Sports Divers or someone with a higher qualification.
